It’s homecoming for the Sturgis Scoopers today! Enjoy a parade down Main Street featuring different community and high school organizations, with a highlight from the Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department! The football team plays tonight at 6pm at Woodle Field facing off against the Douglas Patriots. Currently being considered the best team West River, the Scoopers are enjoying a great season and tonight is sure to be a fun game. A special congratulations to the SBHS Royalty and all the students that have been working all week to make all the Homecoming Festivities possible!

The third annual Sturgis High School Booster Club Golf Classic will be held this coming June 14 at Boulder Canyon Country Club. All proceeds from this annual golf tournament benefit the Sturgis High School Booster Club. The event is a 4 person scramble with tee time set for 1:00PM. Entry fees are $50.00 per golfer which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, Scooper Sam Can Coozie, golf balls, dinner and a chance to win many great pin prizes. The grand prize this year is a Hole-in-One Contest sponsored by Properties Unlimited Realty, LLC of Sturgis. The golfer with the first ace on #6 will win a 2008 Ford Mustang!!

Rod Richardson has been selected as the next Sturgis High School Football coach! Richardson’s resume includes a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1993 and a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2008, as well as years of coaching experience.

“I’m coming in with very high expectations for the coaching staff, the students and myself, and I’m excited about taking over a program that is on the rise,” Richardson said. “I feel very fortunate to have a quality staff in place who are familiar with the students. I’m looking forward to being a Scooper.”

Richardson’s family includes his wife Margie, his son Cael and his daughter Marissa. Please join me in welcoming them to the Black Hills!
